John D. Fitzpatrick (member) concentrates his practice in the areas of business, construction and insurance litigation, as well as representing individuals and companies in criminal cases and in relation to government inquiries. Mr. Fitzpatrick has successfully tried a diverse range of cases including insurance, construction and contract disputes and criminal matters.

Mr. Fitzpatrick’s commercial litigation work has included representing a major software company, manufacturers, lenders, financing companies, construction companies, and numerous closely-held business entities in cases such as state and federal contract and bidding disputes, claims for monies owed, and contract disputes with general contractors, subcontractors, vendors and owners. He has also litigated insurance coverage disputes, representing both insurance companies and individuals.

In addition to his civil litigation practice, Mr. Fitzpatrick also represents individuals and businesses under government investigation or formally charged with crimes. He has successfully defended businesses and business owners from a variety of criminal charges. Along with his privately retained criminal defense work, Mr. Fitzpatrick has served on a panel of attorneys qualified to accept appointments from the Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services (“CPCS”) to represent indigent defendants charged with first degree murder. Mr Fitzpatrick also maintains an active appellate practice, with respect to both criminal and civil matters.

Mr. Fitzpatrick has been a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 1987 and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Since 1998, Mr. Fitzpatrick has served as a clinical instructor at Harvard Law School. Mr. Fitzpatrick is a Captain in the United States Army Reserve.

Mr. Fitzpatrick received his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and a B.S. degree in Education from the University of Michigan. After graduating from law school and before entering private practice, he served as law clerk for the Supreme Judicial Court of Maine for a year and as a trial attorney for the Massachusetts public defender’s office (CPCS) for the next five years.
